We did a loop hike from Sky Country Th today. It was 50 degrees with low clouds when we started off. 8 cars were in the lot when we pulled in just before 9:00.T he 2 porta potties in the lot had recently been serviced. We followed Old Man’s, Cave Hole, By Pass, Fred’s Railroad, Mine Shaft, Tibbett’s Marsh, Shangrila, Lost Beagle Coyote Creek and back to Old Man’s Trail for a 5.5 mile loop with a short pit stop at Radar Park to use the Porta Potties (also recently cleaned). All the trails are saturated well drained soil. There was evidence of recently dug side drainage channels on 3 of the trails. Mine shaft had a deadfall tree broken in chunks laying in the trail. KCP does an excellent job of keeping all trails in Cougar Mtn Regional Park debris free! We saw a couple bird species and 4 type of fungi. When we got to the clay pit area it was pea soup and moisture droplets were falling from the trees. Trail traffic was light and we saw a couple trail runners and their dog friends a couple times doing similar loops. 22 cars were in the lot when we drove off at 11:35. Another fantastic day out in nature with friends.
