Lake Serene — Thursday, Jan. 15, 2026

Central Cascades > Stevens Pass - West
Lake Serene by ninjaracerchick

Bluebird day with a little fog to start. First creek crossing with the bridge must’ve flooded pretty good a month back because the trail no longer connects to the bridge, though it’s not hard to get on it. One more difficult tree crossing near the beginning and one more difficult in the open snow field area, otherwise all down trees were easy to navigate.

Snow started intermittently once you get into the open and had a nice layer of ice on top. I ended up giving in and putting my spikes on at the waterfall near the lake, but left them on till I was all the way back into the trees since downhill on ice is much sketchier haha. Lake was lightly iced over with some avalanches on index. Perfect day in the mountains!

How deep was the snow? Was it packed enough to avoid postholing, or do you think that could be a problem in the coming days with this warmer, sunny weather?
