Puget Sound and Islands > Seattle-Tacoma Area
Mossy forest

This is a great short family hike if the weather is not so good, cold, rainy or for us both.  We parked at the lower lot off highway 202 and used the info kiosk for shelter as we adjusted rain jackets, hats and gloves.  We made a long loop of the lower trails around the meadow area and then the forest.  One of the segments that heads higher on the hill was signed closed, and one of the lower segments, where the trail crossed a wide shallow water way is perma closed.  Still lots of options though and we linked the segments together to get a two mile loop.  The forest kept the worst of the rain off and is lovely, lots of mossy goodness just dripping from the trees.  The trails we used were all clear of debris and the footing was good.  Very little mud, water proof boots still a good idea though and there are some trail puddles in the meadow.  A good choice for a short hike this time of year.

Meadow composting outhouses closed but there are a couple of porta potties there - did not check them out.  Also note this is a preserve and dogs required to be on leash.  Especially important to follow that requirement, as there are often families with little kids hiking here.

Winter meadow colors
Lots of ferns too
A good choice for family hiking
