One last hike before the winter closure of road 83. With a late start we opted for a short jaunt down the Lava Canyon trail. There was one other vehicle when we arrived around 9:40am. There was a slippery dusting of precipitation on the wooden bridges, otherwise the trail is in good shape with no debris or downed trees.
After Lava Canyon we drove over to Red Rock Pass and made a quick climb up the Butte Camp trail for a view of St Helens across the lava field. One other vehicle arrived while we were there otherwise there was no one else on this trail.
Would have been a great day for Ape Canyon ... too bad we didn't get moving as early as usual. That will teach us!
