The summer trailhead was still accessible as of 11/11. Parked the car at Deer Creek Pass (at the spur of Segelsen rd and the overgrown and narrow Coney Pass Rd.)
Walked Coney Pass Rd for a bit and almost missed the 'trailhead' because it's unmarked and was obscured with the overgrown. Later we did see the old Round Mountain sign that was nailed to the tree.
Trail was marked with various flagging and yellow metal marker on the trees and it was mostly in the forest until we were above 4,600ft. Some snow patches along the trail and became more consistent above the treeline.
Overall, the trail was wet and slick so the descent was a bit tedious but we didn't have too much trouble with navigation. The Creek below the talus slope was flowing so there's plenty of water.
Plenty of space at the summit (I think it's enough space to pitch 3 or 4 tents 🙂) with a stunning 360 view of surrounding peaks. Register is in a nalgene bottle.
Carried snowshoes, ice axes, spikes, poles and helmets but snowshoes were not needed. We mostly booted up and used spikes and axes on the way down.
Stats: a little less than 5 mi RT, a little less than 2K total gain. 6:43 total, leisurely pace.
