Trip Report

Spencer Island — Thursday, Nov. 6, 2025

Puget Sound and Islands > Seattle-Tacoma Area

Sadly, the trail along the island parameter has deteriorated to the point of needing a major renovation and that most likely will not happen. The old, dilapidated loo is gone and the shed that used to be there has been claimed by the mud. You can still cross the bridge and walk a little way on some decent trail.  The easiest walking is to take the paved trail around the treatment plant and follow it past the sewage lagoons. Not as bad as it sounds. The end section on the north has some nice signage about the ecology of the estuary. We saw quite a bit of wildlife today, herons, northern harrier, a pair of eagles, kingfisher, some seagulls with black tipped wings, the usual crows and we had our ducks in a row. Overhead snow geese were enroute to wintering grounds, maybe the Snohomish River valley. We missed most of the rain, but not all of it.

unfortunate - I saw an update on the SnoCo website they are looking for folks to volunteer to maintain the property even though it's been left to deteriorate and no further updates on the planned upgrades so it doesn't seem to be looking good... might be a write off at this point.
