I drove to the parking area for the meadows and it's currently a staging area for some road work nearby. It's not possible to visit the meadows anyway without a special permit. The road behind the yellow DNR gate just beyond on the left leads up to the top of "Camas Mountain" which I walked instead.
Where the road ends at the top of the ridge, turn right and continue in open, thinned forest. There are good views from the bouldery summit, but not today.
I saw some fields of camas flowers in Idaho this spring and was duly impressed with their beauty. Will have to return here in spring and check them out from the edges of the meadow or try to participate in one of the guided tours.
Good hike for a rainy day.
4.2 miles RT and 645' gain.
