Trip Report

Lake Serene, Bridal Veil Falls — Monday, Nov. 3, 2025

Central Cascades > Stevens Pass - West

There's a lot of water on these two hikes today. I'd heard Index got 5 inches of rain in the last few days, so I wanted to check out Bridal Veil Falls. As I had hoped for, the falls were raging. There was so much spray coming off of the falls that you need rain gear to stand anywhere near them.

The trail was pretty wet today between the trailhead and the falls, and then again in the last half mile before Lake Serene. There are currently many stream crossings and there's water running down the trail in several places. Waterproof shoes were really helpful today, as were hiking poles. Fortunately nothing is icy yet. There's no snow on the trail.

The temperature was dramatically colder in the lake basin and there was quite a wind. There was no one at the lake when I got there, which I don't think I've ever seen before on this hike. I had started early to time my hike for the rain window. On the way back down, around 10:30am or so, I ran into around a dozen hikers making their way up.

There are about half a dozen blowdowns right now. Three of them are mildly challenging to get over or under.

A rare sight: empty lunch rock
