I wanted to see the trail conditions after a week of rain here at the end of October. I walked the entire river trail from the southern entrance near Main Street and Alder Street. The mileage was approximately 2.75 miles for the loop trail. Parking is available along the city street but there are no rest room facilities.
As described in the trail overview, this is great trail for all ages and abilities. It is a wide crushed gravel path that winds near the Sultan river. There are several places where you can access the river. I went in the morning and did not see another group until my way back. Most of the leaves were down after the recent storms.
One of the features of the park is a new “side channel” habitat was restored in 2024 and provides habitat for salmon and other wildlife. I did see a couple salmon looking down from one of the bridges.
There were only a few puddles on the trail after a week of rain. It is a local gem for those who want a walk with the family.
Maintenance
One sad note was the presence of 50-75 mature trees that are being smothered by English Ivy. Several trees have already been killed. The purpose of this note is to let the landowner know of this issue. This is an invasive species and the vertical vines flower to spread seeds to other forested areas. South end of river trail.
