We had a lovely hike to Colchuck Lake on Thursdsay, Oct. 30. The FS road off of Icicle Canyon was in good shape with no snow. There was very little snow for the first 1-2 miles. At mile 2, where you turn off towards Colchuck Lake, the snow on the trail became constant. The trail was hard packed with no loose snow. However, in the afternoon, it became a bit slippery and icy. We hiked in hiking boots and with trekking poles, and it was do-able, but slow and slippery, especially on the descent. I highly recommend micro-spikes. With spikes, it would be no problem at all.
The trail was in excellent condition, and the fall colors were beautiful. Highly recommend.
