Perfect midweek trail for a quick hike before autumn completely fades away. We reached the trailhead around 11 a.m. Despite about 15 cars already parked there, we encountered only a few groups on the way to the lake. The first two miles still showcased beautiful fall colors. The trail was wet and muddy, so caution is needed, especially on the descent. It was cold and windy by the lake, and we didn’t get to enjoy the usual mirror-like reflections. Nevertheless, we had the place to ourselves, sipping hot tea on a rock while taking in the stunning mountain views. We picked a couple of bags of mushrooms on the way down. So grateful to have this trail so close to home.
