The trail was in good condition. We hiked from the gate to a little ways past the old trailhead (3.5ish miles) before turning around. We got to the trailhead a little after 1:00, and there were only two other cars there. One was a hunter who was leaving, and the other was a biker. It served as a good reminder to wear your bright colors/vibrant oranges for the people out hunting (and make sure your dog does too!). There were a TON of false chanterelles right on the trail that had just popped up in the past day or so.
The road is how I remember it—good for stretches to make you confident there won’t be any potholes/road damage, and then wham—huge pothole/road damage. If you take it slow, any car can figure a way around the rough parts.
