Beautiful hike. We used spikes today after talking with someone finishing up the hike. There was snow (or slush).on 99% of the hike. I think we could have made it up without spikes, but definitely would have been some slipping and sliding. It was nice to have the extra traction. We did see about half the people without them.
The larches are maybe a little beyond peak because there quite a few needles falling, but many were still looking great.
We hiked down to the lakeside and then checked out the viewpoint on the other side of the lake. It was a nice day for a hike. As the weather and traffic increased the trail became a little more slushy and muddy on the return trip.
