Mount Spokane State Park - Mount Kit Carson Loop Road, Mount Spokane State Park - Trail 110 — Monday, Oct. 13, 2025

Eastern Washington > Spokane Area/Coeur d'Alene
Deer on the access road on the way to the trailhead.

The weekend cold snap and precip resulted in a lovely blanket of snow on Mount Spokane over the weekend! This was a site visit with park staff to do some scouting for 2026 projects, planned a couple weeks in advance. The new snow made our scouting work a little more difficult, but I lost track of how many times we had to stop and exclaim over how pretty everything looked! It was powder in the morning, too! We saw one person who was so excited by the snow that they were skinning up on a pair of rock skis, plus several other trail users who were surprised by the conditions but definitely embracing it. Snowshoe season is just around the corner! (I haven't had official word from park staff yet, but I imagine that this means the summit road is likely closed until next spring. This is currently the sweet spot of the season: summer rules still in effect so no SnoPark permit required to play in the snow, and hikers still allowed on the Nordic Trail system, too.)

Mountain ash with fresh snow!
Saddle Junction with fresh snow.
Taking trail measurements made slightly more difficult!
