My dad agreed to go hiking with me so long as I picked a "reasonable hike," and this fit the bill! He liked it because the grade is fairly mild, and I liked it because there was enough elevation change and variety to keep things interesting. It was a little smoky but nothing unmanageable.
We got there around 8:45am on a Saturday, and there was plenty of parking available. The road out is rocky; there were a few sedans and Priuses at the trailhead, so I guess it's passable without a high clearance vehicle, but we were grateful for our Subaru. WTA driving instructions worked like a charm.
