Artist Ridge - Huntoon Point — Saturday, Sep. 13, 2025

North Cascades > Mount Baker Area
A view of Huntoon Point from the Ptarmigan Ridge Trail

Big scenic bang for the buck!  So I hiked it daily at sunrise before other hikes during my week of camping & hiking at Mount Baker :-)

Road: There were a couple of brief stops for construction between Silver Fir Campground and Heather Meadows.  Otherwise road is great, paved all the way to Artist Point.

Trail: Lots of crisscrossing trails all over Artist Ridge/Huntoon Point.

Crowds: Usually about a dozen cars at dawn; 3/4 full lot by afternoon.  Only saw about a dozen others spread out on the trail each day at sunrise.

Wildflowers: amazing to see monkey flowers, asters, fireweed in full bloom this late!

Berries: lots of blueberries

Fall Foliage: a week or two away from vibrant color, but subtle changes happening now.

Wildlife: although I missed them, another hiker had just photographed a pair of pine martens near the trail; the ranger there got excited to see the pic and called it in.
