Hiked September 14, 2025 Arrive early if you can—parking at the Yellow Aster Butte trailhead can be a gauntlet of cars later in the day. This is a wonderfully friendly fall hike. The route is typically about 3.4 miles, but for us it turned into nearly 8 miles due to an unexpected situation: a vehicle lost transmission control and went over the side of the forest road. Thankfully no one was hurt, but recovery efforts lasted all day. When we left the trail around 4 p.m., the crew had only just begun moving the vehicle—I’m not even sure it was out by the time night fell. The hike itself, though, was incredible. No bugs, crisp autumn air, and some of the best North Cascades views I’ve ever seen. The lakes are perfect for cooling off at the end, and if you have extra containers, I highly recommend picking some of the huckleberries along the way—they were some of the plumpest I’ve ever found. Fall colors are popping! Happy Hiking!\

Thanks to hiker God everyone were safe! I drove twice in August to twins lakes. 1st time, No cars. My dog and I were the only one twins lake trailhead. We had the fire lookout to ourselves. It was cloudy and fogy, the view was sucked. A couple of days later, It was sunny and clear. It was great!
