Overall this was a fantastic short hike to two beautiful lakes, without too many other people!
Road: We made it in a Honda Accord. That being said high clearance is HIGHLY recommended as the potholes are deep and the road is narrow with encroaching brush.
Trail: The first stretch of trail is brushy, but it quickly clears as the slope steepens. Expect some light scrambling up the root/rock covered path, especially on the steepest parts. Poles helped a lot coming both up and down.
After 0.75 miles, we took the short side trail to pretty Lake Laura, surrounded by mountains and showcasing a rocky peninsula. On the ridge there were some filtered views, including of Rainier! Then we continued up the steep path to Lake Lillian. This lake was also beautiful, and we met many backpackers staying the night and some fishers and swimmers. Two trails go along the shore, one to the left and one to the right. Both involve some light rock scrambling and are slightly exposed - use caution. We spent some time exploring and relaxing by the water before heading back down.
A rewarding hike in all, but more difficult than the mileage would suggest!
