Park Pass — Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2025

North Cascades
Southern half of the trail is becoming overgrown.

The Park Pass trail #506 connects at the south end to the Boundary Trail (PNT) 533 west of Peeve Pass and ends just south of US-Canada boundary at Park Pass.

We cleared smaller blowdowns and branches off the trail as we hiked.

The southern half of the trail was burned in the 2017 Diamond Creek fire. The trail has only a few larger blowdowns, only one of which requires going off trail to get around. Willows and fireweed encroach on the trail and the tread is faint. Routefinding, however, is straightforward.

The northern half of the trail has no barriers and the tread is distinct.

Good-flowing streams are located at the southern junction and half a mile north of the southern junction. The Pasayten was in "extreme drought" when we hiked it; in wetter years, more water could be available in small stream channels farther north along the trail.

There are no campsites along the trail.

Southern end of trail, with Sheep Mountain in background.
