Jove Peak — Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2025

Central Cascades > Stevens Pass - East

Camped at lake janus with a off trail hike to jove peak.   I Don't typically write trip reports but I decided this time I would  because honestly if your going out hiking or backpacking bring a gosh darn map or know where your going our group and the other group of thru hikers whom were heading to rainy pass both stopped at the junction of Smith brook and pct and youd be shocked at how many people arnt prepared are even aware which trail they want both our group and the others were having to direct people to the lake they wanted (lake vahalla) our group  had to give directions to 9 groups in about 40 minutes  because  each of these groups once hitting the junction they were immediately lost and unsure where they were supposed to go.    So In other words be prepared and know your routeits common sense.   All those groups of people if only you knew how much our and the other group were laughing at you all youd be sorely embarraesd.

Trail conditions:The trail from smithbrook is in great condition and remains the same once hitting the PCT the entire distance to lake janus,   some small minor muddy obstacles on the trip to janus but hardly anything.     The trip to jove peak from lake due to the route chosen was approximately 3 hrs.  Stayed along the west ridge leading up to the summit which is brush filled beyond imagination but oh so much  fun,  stayed away from the north section of the ridge due to the steepness of terrain that would be required later on in submitting jove.    Splendid views atop the summit.   And remember always have a map or knowledge of where your going otherwise all us thru hikers and overnighters are gonna keep cracking jokes about you . LOL.
