Arrived at 9am on a Friday and managed to find a parking spot along the road not far down from the TH. Bathroom stocked. Trail in great shape. My second time here and it is my top hike ever in WA.
I'd really recommend that once you get to the top and catch your breath, that you continue along hikers' right. There were perhaps 20 people at the top but nobody just a few minutes walk farther. Several more hidden camp spots and pools where water is melting out of the glacier and snowfields. We even found a vein of fool's gold and something that really looked like silver. And tough, interesting plants hidden in the cracks of the rock. Also note the scratches in the bedrock from the glacier.
Road:
All manner of cars at the TH, but there are a few rough spots as other noted near the TH. The first few miles of gravel are really the worst; with nearly continuous tiny washboards. The middle section is nice and smooth; hardly any potholes even. Near the end is mostly paved since it's so steep. But a few spiky rock bits here and there.
Animals:
Goats at the top and along Sahale Arm itself. One pair of baby/mama.
