When we first arrived at 10:30am we had to park on the street. Due to a shoe mishap we left and came back around 12:50pm and were able to snag a spot in the lot then. Due to the late start, we ultimately had to turn around after making a side trip to Lake Ann (going counter clockwise) but we will be back to make it to the pass! Lake Ann is gorgeous, shimmering in the sun, but we'll skip it when we come back a second time.
We saw reports about how bad the bugs are so we slathered on bug spray as soon as we got in the car. It seemed to keep mosquitoes away but the (biting??) flies were HORRIBLE! We would get swarmed the second we stopped to enjoy the views and still had to fight them off even while moving, my poor dog was sick of it. We'll need to figure out a better solution for flies when we return.
Maybe it gets more difficult farther in, but the hike up to the turn off to Lake Ann was pretty easy. Perhaps the moderate/hard rating is only if you take the loop clockwise?
