Skyline Trail Loop — Wednesday, Jul. 23, 2025

Mount Rainier Area > SW - Longmire/Paradise

Just a quick update on all things Paradise from my volunteer meadow rove this week. Snow conditions are changing fast, of course, but right now there is still a large snow crossing around the snowbridge over the trail on east Skyline just below the intersection with Golden Gate. It is hard packed, even on a hot midday, with poles showing the route. No spikes needed. I didn't do high Skyline, but reports were only a bit of snow up there.

Wildflowers are spectacular! Are they earlier than usual? Seems like it. Other than lupine, which is just coming, I would say beginning peak. Still a few avalanche lilies in shaded ravines and pasqueflowers up high. Most of the latter has gone to seed head stage.

A bajillion people midweek. Road resurfacing is in the upper parking lot, which I was told they are doing one third at a time. Tues/Wed they were on the first third, which was mostly plaza. The radio reported both lots and the picnic area parking were full late morning. And Paradise Road was full down to 4th Crossing. Also road work on Stevens Canyon Rd. at the end of Paradise Road.
