Olympic Peninsula > Kitsap Peninsula
Port Gamble Park Trails- South

Although many people prefer the northern section of Port Gamble Forest Park trail system with its excellent wooded hiking and bike trails however, with the recent completion of the Stottlemeyer trailhead the southern section of Port Gamble Forest Heritage Park is now readily accessible and is a great all weather, lowland relatively flat option. Stottlemeyer trailhead has ample parking and provides access to the numerous south end loop trail options. By combining the numbered service roads and named trails a hiker can easily complete a 6 mile or longer loop. All the trails were well marked although having a park map and a GPS trail app was extremely helpful. The trails in the forested areas were wide and dry and the packed gravel service roads were more open and exposed. One loop option might be to head northwest from the parking lot along Ridge Trail, transitioning to Clearcut and continue to Alder Pudding trail then starting the loop back from Maggie‘s rock. Returning southbound hiking along Mordor and G1900 through Bobsled will return you back to the parking lot in about 2 1/2 hours. Trail maintenance along the way was excellent with the only dense Scotchbroom encountered was at the Maggie’s Rock turnaround. Shorter loops can be constructed for those with children in tow.
