After a failed attempt a few years ago, I was glad to finally get to the actual meadows on a beautiful weather day. Puffy clouds made for great photo contrast.
This is really a 3 part trail. First flat bit from the parking lot to the valley is wonderful big forest. Second long stretch up the valley was nice in the morning but hot in the afternoon sun. The third stretch after the creek crossing was a real grind of about 1k per mile. As we got up higher the bugs really increased, to the point where we put on our head nets at the first saddle/viewpoint.
- Few blowdowns but all easy to get over and around.
- Trail in good shape.
- Creek crossing easy on dry rocks.
- Some snow patches remain at the main meadow area.
- The tarns are all nice and full of both water and mosquito larvae!
