Frog Mountain — Monday, Jul. 7, 2025

We stayed at Troublesome Creek campground Sunday night after hiking Blanca Lake and got a bit of a late start for this hike on Monday after closing up camp. The road is in fine shape and there was a ton of space in the parking lot on a Monday, although we clearly weren't the only ones to extend the holiday weekend. We started around 10:30 am on the trail on a brilliant sunny day. Lots of shade and dappled sunshine for the first few miles before the trail is more exposed. Before we reached the top, it was clear that the very fine soil of the trail was too hot for the pup's paws, so we turned back to prioritize her comfort and safety. We got good views of the ridge across the valley and lots of wildflowers nonetheless. If hiking with a canine companion wait for cooler weather, or get an earlier start than we did!
