Snow Lake, Gem Lake & Wright Mountain — Sunday, Jul. 6, 2025

Heaven knows Snow Lake doesn't need another TR...but wanted to comment on the sheer magnitude of mosquitos at the lake right now specifically for camping overnight. The bugs from 8pm-930pm and 8a-9:30a at our campsite were especially dense, however in the midday heat were almost non-existent.

Perhaps our choice of camping locations (uphill just past crossing the inlet to Snow Lake) was particularly bad, but wanted to warn other overnight users of the intensity of the bugs. For day users I don't expect bugs to be an issue.

As for the day trip, the trail to Gem Lake beyond the first Snow Lake waterfront access is slightly slower going than the highway-like approach to the Snow Lake. The hike/scramble up Wright Mountain is quite well defined, and nearly snow free. The Wright Mountain climb requires a little bit of fancy footwork and climbing over loose rocks. And to stay on theme, the top of Wright had a dense amount of bugs flittering around even at midday.
