Bears! We saw four bears (maybe the same bear twice). One was hanging out at the first "teaser" meadow. We made some noise and it moved on into the trees. We saw a bear here on the way up and down. We also saw a mama bear with cub(s?) along the trail to the white river viewpoint. They showed no inclination to move so we turned back toward Grand Park.
Road: I made it in my Toyota Avalon sedan but was pushing the limits of what I want to put my daily-driver vehicle through. First section before the slide is littered in potholes. We stopped and cut the downed tree off the road, so that is clear now. The slide was no problem; just take it slow. The road after the slide was my least favorite section due to how rocky it was. I had to drive slowly and pick my route to avoid scraping.
Parking: Arrived about 11:30 on Saturday and found parking off the side of the road a few hundred feet up from the trailhead.
Trail: This was my second time up here and it was a great hike with the wildflowers out. Thousands of avalanche lilies along the trail before Grand Park, but some lower down were already shriveling up. Incredible views of the mountain across the meadows. This is one of my favorite hikes.
