Three Forks, Deer Park, Grand Pass & Moose Lake — Thursday, Jun. 19, 2025

I traveled from upstate NY to do this multi day hiking trip with 2 of my sons. We were restricted on the days we could go based on my oldest son's work schedule. The weather for the whole trip was less than ideal. The clouds covered the mountains the entire trip, and it frequently rained. We start late from deer Park on Thursday with thoughts of making it to Moose lake. The trail was in good condition except for a sketchy snow field crossing near Obstruction Point. This was my first experience with these conditions, crampons and trekking poles were a necessity. The trail from Obstruction point to Moose Lake was generally good with minor snow crossings. We arrived at Moose lake with just enough time to set up camp before dark. There were many deer keeping us company. In the morning the clouds were a little higher and allowed some views. The hike up and over Grand Pass was the best part of the 3 days. There was a lot of snow to traverse, but all manageable with the right equipment. Just before the pass there was a great area where we all glissaded down. We continued over the pass and down to the Cameron Creek trail. The plan was to try and get over Cameron Pass but shortly after we started that direction it started to rain and the decision to turn back towards Three Forks was made. It was a rainy wet hike all the way. Cameron Creek trail was in good shape the entire way. The lean-to at Three Forks was thankfully available and we were able to get dry. we were able to get a fire going which felt awesome after being cold and wet for hours. We started late the next day since it was raining again. The hike up to Deer Park was a bit strenuous since we were tied and it's 3000 feet up. The trail here was also in great condition. This was a great experience even though the conditions were not great.
