Enchanted Valley via East Fork Quinault River — Wednesday, Jun. 11, 2025

Olympic Peninsula > Pacific Coast
Gang of elk

The gravel sections of road were bumpy, but passable with caution.

We hiked to Pyrites on Wednesday and stayed 2 nights. On Thursday, we did a day hike to the valley, which took a little over 3 hours total.

From the trailhead to Pyrites took us 5 hours, and we spotted a gang of 11 elk.  No bears or elk spotted after Pyrites, but saw another elk on our way back. Groups before and after us reported bear sightings in the valley and on the trail, respectively.

The return hike from Pyrites took us 4.5 hours.

Salmon berries and blueberries were ripe before Pony Bridge, but less ripe later on.

Buttercups were abundant, as were early blooms of Nootka roses. Past Pyrites, keep an eye out for Indian Paintbrush and Lupine. With a keen eye, you may spot pink and yellow monkey flowers in the stream beds.

Important note: drive home via Aberdeen to enjoy fries & shake at Lighthouse Drive-In.
