We visited Hurricane Ridge and hiked up to Hurrican hill. It was a fantastic sunny June day.
Trip: Once you are at the Hurricane Ridge Road - drive up to the ticket booth, you will need to show the pass or buy one. The drive itself is beautiful (in Sunny weather). Do mind the tunnels. There are plenty lookout points on this drive.
At the top - at the visitor center, you have two options. Park and enjoy the views OR just continue the drive for another 1.5-2 miles. The road does get a bit narrow so please do mind the speed limit and watch for oncoming traffic.
Parking: There is a small parking area at the trail head. There is an overflow parking area as well. The hike is about 3.5-4 miles. It is pretty well paved road and incredibly well maintained.
We hiked mid day and there were plenty fellow hikers on the trail. Tons of wildlife - deer specifically. The views are out of this world though. Just out of this world.
Tips:
1. We bought a day pass thinking that was enough. But the forest service personnel said that was not good enough. So, we ended up buying a national forest pass at the counter.
2. Check the weather. This is the first time I was able to actually have an amazing trip. It was incredibly foggy last two times - we actually ended up turning around one time. So, if you want to check out the gorgeous views, then you will need to plan it for a sunny day.
3. Visitor center and parking lot: Pretty huge area and they even have a small gift store. If you are not interested to hike, no worries. Plenty amazing views from the visitor center parking area.
