Walked the Tolt-MacDonald park trails Saturday morning. I’d wanted to check on the status of the pedestrian suspension bridge repairs but also explore some of the southern trails not affected by the bridge closure. Parking at any of the non-camping area lots is free and relatively plentiful. Sanicans are available at the main lot and are in good condition. The trails are a mixture of paved, gravel and dirt paths with no blocking issues (other than no access over the bridge to the western area of the park). Some of the small side trails are getting a bit brushy but completely expected this time of year and the main routes were really nicely brushed back. The “old levy” trail that heads north along the river is the brushiest and seems to just peter out and disappear into the weeds pretty quickly. We also extended the walk by taking the easy and safe path under hwy 203 on the far SE corner of the park extending the walk east along the river, crossing the Snoqualmie Valley trail and continuing about a mile until it stops at a residential development adding some additional distance and more really nice river views.
The biggest “new” news is that there is now signage posted indicating the pedestrian bridge repair construction will run from May 25th through June 27th. The signage doesn’t specifically say it will open on the 28th but at least it seems the repairs should be completed soon rather than drag on for years which is great news. Not an overwhelming selection of wildlife out today but did see some bunnies, lots of robins, a family of merganser ducklings, some frogs in the wetland pond areas and heard quite a bit of summer bird song in the forests. One other quick note - the Carnation Farmers Market is now held here on Tuesdays. A really nice walk which will be even better once the suspension bridge reopens if you are in the area.
