Checked out Cottonwood Lake trail to see how the snow level was. Road was snow free all the way to the trail head, just lots of small potholes. Ran into some snow patches part way up the trail, getting heavier just before Cottonwood Lake, but still able to find the trail between patches. A few spots were rather muddy with some runoff getting in the trail.
Crossing the creek just before the lake was a little dicey with higher water, but made it with just trail runner shoes on the stepping stones. Will likely take my over-shoe boots next time for easier crossing.
Cottonwood Lake was snow and ice free, with patches around the camping area. Probably about gone by now, four days later. After an enjoyable stop at the lake for a snack, headed up the trail towards Mirror Lake.
Only a couple hundred yards up the trail towards Mirror Lake the snow got a bit heavier as the trail got steeper, making it harder to follow the trail. Decided to call it here and come again another day. But even just Cottonwood Lake was worth the trip.
