Olympic Peninsula > Hood Canal

A solo trek today. I got to the trailhead at 7:40am and was the first car there. The first couple of miles up is the hardest. Once you get to horse camp, in my opinion, the rest of the way isn’t too bad. I took a left at the lollipop and there were tiny patches of snow here and there but it will all be gone soon. The trail is in great shape. Actually, I had never seen it up here without snow, so it looked so different and very beautiful.

It started out as a cloudy morning but the sun came out and was shining on all the glorious wildflowers. Phlox, Penstemon, Indian Paint Brush, Bear Grass… I had the summit all to myself. So peaceful and beautiful. I’ve heard many people say they don’t like to bother with this trail because of the lack of views. I strongly disagree. The views are fantastic, and the fact that this is only one hour away from where I live makes it a very ideal trail for me to do conditioning hikes.

I came down the same way I went up because I just like that route and I like routine. My trip took 3:40 round trip. Such a beautiful day on this gorgeous mountain!
