Trip Report

Mount Spokane State Park - Hay Ridge Loop — Sunday, Jun. 1, 2025

Eastern Washington > Spokane Area/Coeur d'Alene

I followed a slightly different and shorter route to explore Hay Ridge today. I parked at the lower Kit Carson lot (hairpin turn). Took Kit Carson trail to where it intersects with 140/170 then followed 170 around the ridge to where it meets up again with Kit Carson, just north of Smith Gap. I hiked back out the way I arrived on Kit Carson trail for a lollipop/frying pan hike. Total miles 5.4. Elevation Gain 712'. Kit Carson is always clear and was a little busy today. Trail 170 felt very secluded with lots of overgrowth on the trailbed, but was easy to follow on the wide trail. A couple downed trees which both me and doggo were able to traverse. Wildflowers were off-the-hook. This was a great little day hike- will repeat!
