There has not been a trip report since February so thought I'd give a little update. Hiked on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend and the TH was full upon arrival at 8:30. Was able to park on the side of the parking lot. Everyone seemed to be heading up to Lake Angeles as we had Heather Park trail pretty much to ourselves.
Trail is in great condition until just shy of the 3 mile mark. There are two trees down across the trail, one is an up & over or under and the second is an under. At about the 3.2 mile mark is the large rootball with several trees down across the trail. As reported in another trip report everyone is going up and around the root ball. Not hard to navigate and no snow now.
We did not hit snow on the trail until just about 5200 ft 4 miles in and just shy of the Heather Park campground by about 200 yards. Our group decided not to "post hole" hike in the snow as we could see some deep boot tracks and it was a warm day with the snow very slushy. Our lunch spot just a few steps back at a rock outcropping with views of Mt Baker, Strait of Juan de Fuca and Klahhane Ridge.
On the way down a couple that had passed us on the way up was making their way down. They made it past the campground to Heather Pass. They said the trail was solid snow until the pass area where it was melted out. They did advise they were post holing when hiking and was a little dicey on the decent through the switchbacks between the campground and the pass.
