Sol Duc Falls. What a bteautiful sight it was! Especially after hiking the long way around to arrive there. We chose the 6 mile loop Lover's Lane trail that begins at the parking lot of the Sol Duc Hot Springs Resort. It was definitely the road less traveled. We met very few other hikers. Most people choose the .8 mile walk to the falls from the official Sol Duc Falls trail head, about a 2 mile drive from the resort.
The Lover's Lane trail is not an easy walk, but it is one of the most beautiful hikes that I have ever taken. You are in the middle of the rain forest with all of the beautiful trees, moss, lichen, ferns, and log bridges fording streams. The trail itself is fairly flat, there is only a 200 foot elevation gain. But it is narrow and rocky with lots of tree roots. If you have the time and the energy, it's well worth the effort.
