Rialto Beach and Hole-in-the-Wall — Friday, May. 9, 2025

Olympic Peninsula > Pacific Coast
Approaching Hole-in-the-Wall.

Had a great afternoon at Rialto Beach and Hole-in-the-Wall. We arrived slightly after 12pm and had no issue finding parking. Vault toilets at the parking lot were open, clean, and well-stocked with toilet paper.

We took our time enjoying the sound of the crashing wives, walking on driftwood, and admiring all the sea stacks to allow time for the tide recede as we made our way to Hole-in-the-Wall. There are no heads to navigate on this stretch of coast excluding the hole itself, so it's a beautiful walk at any time of day. When we got to Hole-in-the-Wall, the tide hadn't receded as far as we felt comfortable to traverse through the south side of the hole, so we opted to climb over the head. There is a rope on the south side, though it did appear significantly frayed in some sections as a note of caution. Once over the head, the north side of beach provides a flatter and easier approach to the hole (though the rocks can be slippery) and has some easily accessible tide pools. We primarily observed green and pink anemones and snails! Our other primary wildlife sighting was a bald eagle flying and carrying a fish. All in all -- especially including pockets of bright sunshine -- it was a wonderful day on the coast.

View standing on top of the Hole-in-the-Wall head.
Bright green anemones!
