Pyramid Mountain / Pyramid Peak — Friday, May. 2, 2025

Olympic Peninsula > Northern Coast
View from the top. Blazen

I thought I would get a workout today. I chose pyramid peak since previous trip reports had great pictures.

Couple of tips. When you arrive at the trail head there is some parking along the side of the road but if you go just a little further there is a nice parking lot and vault toilet on the lake side of the road.
The sign at the trailhead says 3.5 miles.  More like 3.8.
There is a big washout/slide right at 2 miles from the trail head. Someone has cut in a boot track across it so that helps. Lots of loose dirt and small rocks.  It is a long way across.  If you have any issues with exposure don’t do it.
Cross the slide?  Now it starts going uphill from there.
At 2.75 miles you attain the ridge. Nice respite from the uphill for awhile. The uphill treck resumes though and then you reach the top. A “cabin” is there and fantastic views of crescent lake.
Back to the car after 4 hours of hiking.
When I was driving back home on US101 on the opposite side of lake Crescent  you can see the huge slide area on the mountain which the trail crossed.
Say hi when you see me on the trail.
