It is less than a mile with only 400 feet of gain to get to the ridge, then you can stroll as far as you want south, so this is perhaps the best wildflower hike there is (outside of MRNP) for families and beginners. The ridge had one of the very best flower displays I have ever seen, with the hills painted in yellow and purple.
