Walked the Osprey Park trails Sunday morning from the main parking area along 1st street. Parking is angle in street parking, free and relatively plentiful. Restrooms are just south of the children’s play area. The trails remain nicely maintained wide, fine crushed gravel plus a number of cute little bridges over a small side channel to the Sultan River that flows through the property. There is a rough exterior loop with a number of other trails in the middle crisscrossing this way and that. A beautiful map with artwork is displayed at the trailhead plus additional informational signage at a number of specific view spots along the paths.
The area is surprisingly nice riparian forest with trees of all sizes. Wildlife this morning included some wood ducks and mallards on the pretty little oxbow lake on the north end of the property plus a number of other various small forest birds. Heard but did not see some band tail pigeon and saw some fresh deer tracks. The best wildlife spot today upheld the very name of the park - a big Osprey carrying a small fish, some distance away but clear enough to tell what it was. Don’t miss the really neat “circle of cedars” - a grove of western red cedar that appears to just happen to grow basically in the shape of a circle. There are nice river views from several little side trails that lead all the way to the shore. If you would like some additional distance the “Susie’s Trail” directly continues south towards the confluence with the Skykomish river from the south side of the park. A nice little forest/river walk with lots to see.
