Willapa Hills Trail — Sunday, Apr. 20, 2025

Southwest Washington > Lewis River Region
Willapa Hills Trail by Ravenshead

My hike covered only a bit of the full 56 mile Willapa Hills Trail. Rainbow Falls State Park to the town PeEll is about 7 miles. The trail itself is in excellent shape. The surface is crushed stone and the path is flat, wide, and suitable for running, walking, biking, or horseback riding. A baby tram would have little difficulty.

The trail crosses roadways and follows the Chehalis River. Allegedly there is an annual river rafting event from PeEll which culminates in going over the falls.

The park has separate day use and camping areas with clean, well maintained bathrooms. Be aware the day use area closes at dusk. Camping opened on April 1.

The PeEll trailhead has a restroom and the town has a country store and cafe. Also of interest, a military tank on display at the Veteran’s memorial park.
