There is a "road closed" sign when approaching the trail head, but it's only blocking half the road and you can pass around it. No snow/ice on the road to trailhead, just a bunch of potholes that you can navigate around w/o much problem.
Trail was snowy/icy about 1.5 miles into the trail. Some parts of the snowy trail you can walk around to avoid the snow/icy, but there were definitely parts of the trail that were very icy and steep and had to go thru. Micro spikes definitely recommended as well as water proof shoes - granted I went on a day that it was pouring rain :)
