Started out early and arrived at the trail head around 7:30am, approximately 4 or 5 cars in the lot. Cloudy and cool morning, some light sprinkles of rain occasionally. The trail is in great shape, looks like a crew did some log clearing in the last week or so since there was still sawdust on the trail. Multiple small streams to cross but the trail was pretty dry most of the way up. You hit snow at the split in the trail between Thompson and Granite Lakes. Past the turn to Granite Lake the trail is pretty much snow covered and hard packed. The lake was still 80% frozen over. Do to the snow, there were not a lot of places to hang out at the lake. Maybe it's different in the summer. I snaps a couple of pictures and talked to a couple groups of hikers and then headed back down. Past maybe 10 small groups of hikers on the way down, at least half with dogs (all leashed). In general an enjoyable hike, a little more elevation gain than I was expecting. A couple of steep sections but mostly just a continuous uphill trek. I bet it gets pretty busy on a summer weekend.
