there was still compact snow on much of the trail due to shade/foot traffic. I had a pole which was helpful going downhill on the stairs- which has a few big steps in spots... I would recommend at minimum good boots. unexpected sun which added to the experience in the trees... I continued on to the lodge and via the trails around the lodge which added some nice solitude.
