We hiked around the preserve this morning — both my partner's and my first time there! — which was quite lovely for a #lovelocaltrails adventure 😊
We made it a goal to walk every trail that's routed on Gaia, and we were able to do so (which required a bit of backtracking on some trails), which ended up being about 2 miles of hiking for us. The map near the trailhead doesn't include all of these trails — it seems like it only includes the main loop. Our hiking got us down right up to both Walker Creek and Miller Creek.
We parked at Grace M. and T.A. Wilson Park, where there are spots for a few cars at a turn-off to park. Google Maps will try to take you further down the road to the actual trailhead if you search for "Walker Preserve" — don't listen! Park here and walk down to the trailhead. Reached the parking area around 10:30 with only one other car there. When we got back maybe an hour later, there was another car there.
The trails are in great shape overall on the Walker Creek side. On the Miller Creek side, the trails look good but are very muddy. We were slipping around a lot, and had to take small steps in some places — we could also see footprint evidence of other folks having slipped around too. There was good signage at many junctions, and a lot of warning signage on steep trails.
It was a quiet day. We only saw a handful of other folks around today. A lovely quiet urban hike!
