We're getting a new round of snow over the next few days. That shouldn't change access on this trail. The poles are in and the path is wide and deep. This is a little (around 1 mile) there and back, no loop in the winter. You get mountain views, the Tatoosh Range, and a wonderful cinematic feel when moving through the forested sections. You can access this hike easiest from the backup lot. Or you can park at the main lot, walk behind the visitor center to access the side walk. A few people attempted to walk on Paradise rd. to get to the sidewalk. Yikes, super bad yikes. The road behind the visitor center and the sidewalk were icy and slippery...for me. My teenager seemed perfectly fine. I was in Keens hiking shoes and he was in street shoes. Maybe he's too cool to slip. I think that's it.
After our short, but long because we took lots of pictures, trek, we took off our snowshoes and made our way to the closed Paradise Valley Rd. to snowshoe until the 2nd bridge (4th crossing up to Mazama Ridge). A couple skiiers said the snow wasn't good for skiing today. I have no idea what that means. It was excellent for snowshoeing.
