I have gone up this access road probably 100+ times in my life. It is my go to for training for bigger climbs, especially in the off season, as it is a consistent uphill, exactly 2.5 miles to the top as I've recorded, and only takes around 1hr45min to complete in total. I have found that it is accessible year around as the road is regularly cleared so service vehicles have access to the towers at the top.
If you are looking for a workout and/or a mountain for training then this is excellent. There is seldom any view from the summit but the old growth forests on the way up are beautiful year around. Margaret's Way on the other side of the mountain has a great view on clear days. Even on peak days you won't see many people and the road is plenty wide enough for easy passing. For the way down I like to meander on other trails to extend my hike and appreciate the dense forest. Be mindful of wildlife, I have seen black bear twice on this route, so they are out there but rare to see. I often see deer near the road as well.
