Trip Report

Naches Peak Loop — Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2024

Mount Rainier Area > SE - Cayuse Pass/Stevens Canyon
Little Tipsoo Lake

Intermittent rain and some peekaboo of blue sky. The temperature was 39°F at 1:30pm, and there were some slashes on the road in shade.

The Naches Peak had a dusting of snow, and the contrast of rustic red of low bush (huckleberry?) and other fall colors (bush to ground cover), evergreen, and talus and glass like surface of Tipsoo lake all created such a gorgeous scene.

With unplanned, on the fly visit, I did not have enough layers to do the whole loop comfortably, and Tahoma Peak behind the clouds, I just enjoyed the stroll around Tipsoo lakes. Such a nice break stretching my legs on my way to Seattle from Yakima.

There were about 20 cars parked across multiple parking lots in the area on a Wednesday, mid-day.

The toilet in the parking lot by the American Lake TH (Tipsoo Lake Comfort Station is what Google map says) was the only one open. Good condition and TP stocked.
