Trip Report

Larch Lakes (Entiat) — Saturday, Oct. 12, 2024

Central Cascades > Entiat Mountains/Lake Chelan

Amazing trip to the Entiat area! The larches were AMAZING. So golden, so vibrant, so beautiful. Not too crowded either as there were only about 6 other groups camping at the lake. On the trail, we would only pass other hikers every once in a while. We also saw a couple of mountain bikers and a few groups of hunters.

Our route: Started at Entiat River TH. Hiked to Entiat River Foot Bridge. Had lunch and a fishing break at the foot bridge. Hiked up towards Myrtle Lake and continued on to Cow Creek Meadows. We took a break at the meadows because the hike up was TOUGH. Then continued to Larch Lakes. The hike from the meadows to the lake was EVEN TOUGHER. Like I wanted to cry and just spend the night on the trail. To get back to the trailhead, we continued northeast, down the mountain, across the Entiat River. Overall, we did a clockwise loop that ended up being way harder than it would have been to go counterclockwise.

Trail condition: The trail was mostly in great condition! A couple of blowdowns that required hiking around or straddling the fallen log. The river crossing was also another obstacle. We anticipated a river crossing and forded the river in our Crocs. Luckily it was a sunny day to rest after the crossing to air dry our feet. We saw another group just walk across the water in their boots. Either way, your feet will be getting wet. There were also a couple of muddy spots on the trail but they weren't bad at all.
